Help Save Lives, Donate Blood: Annual Fall Drive

Posted by Lake Health News on Oct 2, 2020 8:56:57 AM

Did you know just one pint of blood can help up to three people in need? You can help save lives by donating blood at the 15th annual Lake County Community Blood Drive! Join Lake Health and the American Red Cross on Thursday, October 22, from 8 am to 7 pm at the Holiday Inn Cleveland Northeast-Mentor.

Schedule Donation Appointment

All who donate will receive a free t-shirt, while supplies last, and can enter to win raffle prizes. Presenting donors will also enjoy special refreshments, courtesy of Lake Health. WINT Integrity Radio 1330am/101.5fm will be onsite providing live entertainment and trivia, in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.

Why donate?

The Red Cross needs the help of donors to maintain a sufficient blood supply. Blood is perishable and cannot be stockpiled, so the need for blood is constant. The Red Cross urges donors of all blood types to give blood and support patients fighting cancer, undergoing transplant surgeries and facing other serious illnesses.

Blood donation guidelines

  • Donors must schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the blood drive and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive.
  • Download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code “LakeCounty” or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment.
  • A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
  • Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

If you are unable to make it on October 22, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code “LakeHealth” to find more upcoming blood drives.
