Fighting Sepsis with Awareness

Fact:

Every year, more than 1.5 million Americans get sepsis and at least 270,000 die from it.

What is sepsis?

Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to an infection. It is life-threatening. Without treatment, sepsis can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death.

What can cause sepsis?

In the body, germs can cause an infection. If that infection isn’t stopped, it can cause sepsis.

In the hospital, if you suspect sepsis, let someone on the patient’s medical team know. Outside the hospital, if you suspect sepsis, see a doctor immediately, call 911 or go to the emergency room and say, “I’m concerned about sepsis.”
